The inaugural ceremony of the Africa-China Alliance for Poverty Alleviation and the 2022 FOCAC Africa-China Poverty Reduction and Development Conference were held in Beijing on Nov 10, 2022. Xia Gengsheng, deputy administrator and a member of the Leading Party Members' Group of the National Rural Revitalization Administration, Liu Yuxi, the Chinese government's special representative on African affairs, Bright Rwamirama, minister of state for the animal industry of Uganda, Rahamtalla M. Osman, the African Union's representative to China, and Siddharth Chatterjee, the UN resident coordinator in China, attended and addressed the ceremony.
Lei Pili, head of the Global Development Promotion Center (GDPC) of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), which is one of the co-sponsors of the alliance, attended the event and delivered a keynote speech on deepening the China-Africa poverty alleviation and development partnership.
Lei noted that China and Africa are good friends, good partners and good brothers who share weal and woe through thick and thin. He said that China-Africa cooperation is a key part of the GDPC's future work, where cooperation and common development will be sought in areas such as enriching the global development project pool, hosting the Forum on Global Action for Shared Development, joint building of the digital publicity platform for global development, and the establishment of a network for global development promotion.
The conference was themed on deepening the China-Africa poverty alleviation and development partnership and promoting high-quality development of China-Africa cooperation. Over 100 representatives from related fields in China and African countries attended the conference and exchanged ideas on topics including food security, employment and green development under the COVID-19 circumstances.
