Dialogue held between Chinese and Indonesian youth of Generation Z

Youth representatives from China and Indonesia shared their views on global health governance, common development in Asia, digital transformation, and energy transition at a dialogue event held both online and offline on Nov 8.

The event, tilted "The China-Indonesia Generation Z Dialogue", was hosted by huanqiu.com and Chinese embassy in Indonesia, and co-organized by the ASEAN-China Center and the Global Development Promotion Center of the China International Development Cooperation Agency(CIDCA).

In his speech via video link, Chinese Ambassador to Indonesia Lu Kang said the participation and contribution of youth in the two countries are indispensable to the rapid development of China-Indonesia relations. 

Lu praised young people's roles in the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway, a flagship project of the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative, the COVID-19 vaccine R&D laboratory jointly launched by the two sides, and enterprises engaged in digital economy cooperation. 

He also expressed hope for the young people to seize the opportunity to contribute their wisdom and strength to global public health and sustainable development.

According to Indonesian Ambassador to China Djauhari Oratmangun, Generation Z is an important engine for digital transformation in the post-pandemic era, and they will also become a driving force for cultural exchanges in Asia and help promote bilateral friendships in Asia and around the world. 

He said he expects to see more such dialogues held, which he believes could strengthen exchanges between Gen Zers of the two countries and two peoples.

 "ASEAN and China have always been good neighbors, good friends and good partners. Indonesia and China have also maintained stable bilateral relations," said Shi Zhongjun, secretary-general of the ASEAN-China Center, adding that the world is expecting the voice of Asian countries, including Indonesia and China, in solidarity to promote global governance and common development.

Tang Ying, director of the CIDCA Global Development Promotion Center, called on the youth of all countries to have a global vision and strengthen solidarity and cooperation to create a better future for mankind, as the fate of people from all over the world are more closely linked.

Xie Rongbin, deputy editor-in-chief of the Global Times, expressed his expectation that the Gen Zers in the two countries will contribute their wisdom and solutions to global health governance, as diseases and health problems have become global issues. 

Head of the Chinese language and literature department at the Universitas Sumatera Utara stressed the importance of scientific and technological means and health system reform amid the global COVID-19 pandemic.

Fang Qiang, deputy director of the Information and Public Relations Division of the ASEAN-China Center, said China and ASEAN are the largest partners, which means that they need to commit to greater openness and multilateralism to make Asia a model of global governance. 

As many summits are held in Asia this year, "the world is entering the Asian moment", Fang added.
