Updated: 2017-02-02

An eight-member Chinese medical team was sent to Sao Tome and Principe on Feb 1 to provide health care in the archipelago’s hospitals.

It is the first Chinese medical mission stemming from a bilateral agreement in the health sector, following the re-establishment on December 26, 2016 of diplomatic relations between China and Sao Tome and Principe.

The Chinese team is composed of specialists in cardiology, dentistry, dermatology and general surgery, as well as some nurses sent by the Health and Family Planning Commission of Sichuan Province, West China Hospital Sichuan University, and the West China School/Hospital of Stomatology Sichuan University.

The medical team has rich clinical experience and is said to have a six-month mission. In addition to providing services in the largest hospital of Sao Tome, they will also work at other health centers on the archipelago.
