This year the Maldives and China celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations, a half century of close friendly relations between our two nations. During this time, China has assisted Maldives in many development projects and programmes including infrastructure development, disaster relief and disaster preparedness, education, health, and many other areas.
Now is the time to reorient ourselves, instead of accusing neighboring countries of failing to act or pointing the finger elsewhere, but working instead as a team, all countries together achieving a common global goal in a world which continues to have much negativity.
Jointly hosted by the CIDCA and the people’s government of Yunnan province, the China-Indian Ocean Region Forum on Development Cooperation was held in Kunming, capital of Yunnan on Nov 21, 2022.
We hope this forum will kick-start our endeavor to pool wisdom and resources. China will strengthen cooperation with countries in the Indian Ocean region to grow the blue economy, advance the implementation of the GDI in the region, embark on the path to shared development, accelerate cooperation and work together to build a maritime community with a shared future.
